What is Post-herpetic neuralgia?

Pain is the most troublesome symptom of herpes zoster. The pain associated with shingles is known as post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN). People with PHN have severe pain in areas where they had the shingles rash. As people get older, they are more likely to develop PHN, and the pain is more likely to be severe.

What is the 5 Day Window?

For treatments to be most effective, doctors recommend that treatment start within 5 days of the rash appearing. People who have or think they might have shingles should seek medical attention as soon as possible.
